Below is a list of Frequently Asked Questions about the Pappy Hoel Campground & Resort in Sturgis,SD: 

  • What is the REFUND POLICY?
    SALES ARE FINAL NO REFUNDS OR ROLLOVERS. YOU MUST BE 18 YEARS OLD TO STAY AT PAPPY HOEL DURING THE RALLY. THIS IS STRICTLY ENFORCED.

  • What amenities do the cabins have? Cabins Include: microwaves, mini fridge, air conditioner and linens. NO RUNNING WATER IN CABINS! Shower houses are within walking distance or you can rent your own personal porta potty to be placed next to your cabin, you will have your own key and we will keep up the maintenance

  • ARE RV SITES NUMBERED?
    Yes, all sites are numbered and guests pick their site # at booking.

  • WHERE IS THE CLOSEST PLACE TO BUY WATER, SNACKS, AND BEER? 
    Please come visit our Pappy Hoel Convenience Store. We have everything you will need!

  • DO YOU HAVE BREAKFAST OR DINNER PACKAGES?
    YES!! We serve a Buffet Breakfast starting at 7:00am and a Buffet Dinner starting at 5:30pm

    You can purchase our Breakfast and Dinner packages on our website, or pay as you go at the register!

  • CAN I BRING A VISITOR TO MY CAMPSITE?
    Yes! But they will have to purchase a wristband. You can purchase the wristband at our Registration Desk.

  • SHIPPING YOUR GEAR

  • IS THE MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT FREE IF I CAMP AT PAPPY HOEL? 
    Yes, it is. All of it! Check out our schedule of events for an idea of the amazing acts and entertainment.

  • WHAT ARE THE DATES FOR THE 2023 STURGIS MOTORCYCLE RALLY? 
    The dates of the 83rd Sturgis Motorcycle Rally are Friday August 4 - Sunday August 13, 2023.

  • CAN I CHECK IN PRIOR TO MY ARRIVAL DATE? 
    Yes, if you arrive earlier than you expected you can pay the difference in your wristband price and/or rv site to upgrade your wristband.

  • HOW FAR ARE YOU FROM THE TOWN OF STURGIS? 
    The Pappy Hoel Campground & Resort is located at the northeast base of Bear Butte State Park, on Highway 79, approximately 11 miles from the city of Sturgis. Click here for a map and directions.

  • CAN I RESERVE A SPECIFIC RV SITE? 
    Yes, all RV Sites are reserved; However, we are requesting that you park your RV so that the sewer trucks can easily reach the connectors on your RV.

  • CAN I RESERVE A SPECIFIC TENT CAMPING SITE? 
    The general camping area at the Pappy Hoel Campground & Resort is open acreage, meaning that “sites” are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Campers simply go find a spot they like in our open acreage and set up there.

  • WHAT CAN I PUT ON MY RV SITE? 
    The RV sites at the Pappy Hoel Campground & Resort are large pull-through sites. Campers may put anything inside their site such as motorcycles, trailers, tents, etc., as long as you do not extend past your allotted space.

  • CAN I SET UP A TENT ON MY RV SITE? 
    Yes, at no additional charge.

  • WHAT CAN I PUT ON MY CAMPING SITE? 
    As mentioned earlier, the general camping area at the Pappy Hoel Campground & Resort is open acreage. There is plenty of room for your motorcycles, vehicles, tents and trailers.

  • CAN I HAVE A CAMPFIRE OR BONFIRE? 
    Meade County has passed an “open burning” ordinance, which prohibits campers to have campfires or bonfires at the Campground. However, the campground will allow grills.

  • CAN I BRING MY PET? 
    Yes, pets are allowed at the Pappy Hoel Campground & Resort. We ask that you please be mindful of your neighbors and keep all areas free from doggie droppings. We also suggest you bring current rabies and vaccination records with your pet.

  • CAN I BRING MY KIDS? 
    Minors (under 18) are not permitted during the Sturgis Rally.   They are permitted during non-rally.

  • CAN I USE THE POOL IF I DON’T CAMP? 
    There is no charge to use the pool and it is open to the public, so bring your friends. Enjoy the music, special poolside events and our bikini-clad poolside waitresses. Hours 9AM - 6PM. 18 or older during rally. ($5 entry prior to Rally)

  • WHAT ARE THE POOL HOURS? 
    The general hours of operation are 9 a.m. to dusk. These hours are subject to change due to weather or management decision.

  • ARE THERE LAUNDRY FACILITIES AT THE CAMPGROUND? 
    We have two different laundry facilities. Machines are coin-operated and open 24 hours.

  • IS THERE WIFI AVAILABLE AT THE CAMPGROUND? 
    We have several cell phone towers on the property. We cannot guarantee you will have WIFI but most customers have no problems with their hotspots working on the grounds.

  • ARE THERE PLACES WHERE I CAN CHARGE MY PHONE AT THE CAMPGROUND? 
    Yes! There are several outlets and power strips at any of the bathhouses and at the General Store.

  • WHAT DOES THE GENERAL STORE SELL? 
    Although we would love to have a Super Wal-mart onsite, it’s just not possible. But our General Store carries those most-needed items, including beer, soda, water, energy drinks and juices, as well as many brands of cigarettes. There’s milk and creamer for your coffee, bread, snacks and some camping gear. We also sell coffee in the morning. Come on down!

  • DOES THE CAMPGROUND HAVE A SHUTTLE THAT GOES DOWNTOWN? 
    The campground no longer has a shuttle, but there is a shuttle bus service from the campground to downtown called daBus.  See the front desk at check-in for details and schedules.

  • WHAT ARE THE FOOD OPTIONS AT THE CAMPGROUND? 
    We have many different food vendors with a great variety of food.  There is a Breakfast and Dinner Buffet available each day at the restaurant located in the General Store.

  • CAN I HAVE ALCOHOL AT MY CAMPSITE? 
    You are welcome to bring and drink alcohol at your campsite. However, you will not be allowed to carry your own alcohol out of the camping area into the public vending area, concert area or saloon.

  • ARE THERE ANY QUIET AREAS TO CAMP? 
    There are no established “quiet zones,” but we have more than 600 acres of land available for you to pitch your tent on. There is plenty of space to find more privacy if that’s what you prefer.

  • CAN I RUN A GENERATOR? 
    Yes, However, we will ask you to group with others who are also running generators.

  • DOES THE CAMPGROUND HAVE PRIVATE SHOWERS? IS THERE ENOUGH HOT WATER FOR EVERYONE? 
    Not only does the PHC have private showers with plenty of hot water, but they are famous for being kept clean!

  • WHAT’S THE WEATHER LIKE DURING THE STURGIS MOTORCYCLE RALLY? 
    The summer weather varies a lot in South Dakota. Depending on the year, it can be cool or hot at night. Be sure to go online ahead of time and check the area weather so you’re prepared with the proper clothing. Also, come prepared for the occasional passing thunderstorm and some potentially strong wind gusts.

  • CAN I BRING A GOLF CART? WHAT ABOUT A FOUR-WHEEL VEHICLE? 
    We also have a partnership with NB Golf Cars, and you can reserve your cart in advance by calling 605-275-4653. We also have a dirt track for four-wheel vehicles or dirt bikes!

  • IS THE PAPPY HOEL CAMPGROUND THE OFFICIAL H.O.G. CHECK-IN (FORMERLY THE H.O.G. PIN STOP) FOR THE 2023 RALLY?  
    YES, we are!  Come down to the official Harley Owners Group Check In to get your pin for 2023!

  • HOW WILD OF A PLACE ARE YOU? IS NUDITY ALLOWED? 
    We do our best to adhere to the laws of the county. We want to continue to come back every year and offer you the best campground in Sturgis! For that reason, nudity — as well as any open sexual acts — are not allowed. That said, we still get pretty wild…. We want YOU to continue to come back.
